POTHOLDERS MY FIRST ART FORM

It’s a humble thing a potholder, but sort of useful.  I made my first on on a little loom with loops and went door to door selling them for a quarter.  They sold like…hotcakes?  potholders!  Well I am still at it, now dyeing cloth or cutting up quilt tops that don’t work out, layering batting with heat resistant cloth and binding them up.  I sometimes say jokingly, “I am either going to be an ax murderer or I am going to make potholders”  but really it wasn’t so bad today!

    Wow,
I remember those old potholders made from loops. Do they still make those things. I remember the frame with all those teeth. Great memory.

  2. I am an artisan and those toothed frames awakened that in me, my true essence. I had to reframe my whole life because I disappeared when making stuff. I actually thought I had an unhappy childhood until I got it that I was in bliss whenever I was engaged in art and those times poof disappeared and left me with the crazy misery of being an old soul in the suburbs of New Orleans in the 50’s and 60’s.
